Selimiye

The Nostalgic Selimiye Fishermen's village is a natural protected are with no reconstruction permit yet issued. You can walk along the coastline. You can catch fish, paddle and travel with boat along the western shores of the bay. Many of the hospital and cheery population of the village, which is adorned with almond tree flowers, are above 100 years of age due to the plentiful oxygen.

The Selimiye Village is 40 km away from Marmaris with an approximately trip of 45 minutes travel; and in a way, it is an untouched corner of heaven and it is one of the natural harbors that silently provides service to yacht tourism. The wide closed bay overlooked by Selimiye virtually resembles a lake.

These natural harbors of the region are the spawning areas for the fishes. In Selimiye, through the faucets of which mineral water flows, people engage in apiculture, olive cultivation, almond cultivation, fishery and wooden boat construction.

The village was named Hydas in the antic age and was later named Losta. It was also dubbed "the crimson village" as the sun disappearing behind the mountains painted the landscape with crimson colors. Hydas (Selimiye), which is one antic settlements of the Bozburun peninsula like  Loryma Kaisareia, Kastabos, Erine and Bybossos, has ruins left from the Archaic age. The region hosts three castle ruins one in the highest hill of Selimiye, other on the Sarıkaya hill and the last one being the Aşarkale in the Kızılköy quarter. The rampart ruins, which are leftover from the Hellenistic age on the southeastern hills of the bay, represent visiting locations for the tourists. The square planned grave monument in the south section, the monitoring constellation and lighthouse 100 off the shore that are constructed for guiding the boats approaching, the monastery and the theatre represent the touristic visiting points. In addition to the works of art that survived until today, American underwater archeologists, who conduct researches on the  wrecks of the region for three years, exhibit the materials and amphoras they have extracted in the Bodrum underwater museum.
